FAQs

Choose Wisely have teamed up with Quotezone.co.uk to make switching your energy supplier online as simple as possible. It will take less than 5 minutes. Unsure about energy switching? Here are the answers to the most common questions we’ve received.

Will I be charged to switch energy?

If you’re currently on a standard variable tariff then you’re not under contract and you won’t be charged for switching. If you are under contract most suppliers charge an early exit fee.

Are the prices different if I go direct?

No, the prices you’ll compare will be the same as if you went direct to the individual provider. This may not be the case with other energy price comparison sites.

Do I need to do anything with my current supplier before I switch?

You should cancel your direct debit. Although very rare, this protects you from any incorrect charges that happen throughout the switching period.

Why should I switch gas and electric?

Gas and electricity suppliers try to attract new customers with their best rates. If you’ve been with a supplier for a while the likelihood is that you’re now on the suppliers standard variable tariff. This can be significantly more expensive than the tariff you were on when you first joined them. By switching, you can again make the most of “new customer” deals.

Is there a chance I could be without electric?

No, when switching gas or electricity supplier you will never be without energy. The flow is continuous so the only change you will see is the lower price on your bill.

Do you compare green energy suppliers?

Yes we compare a number of green energy supplier such as Bulb, Co-op energy, Ecotricity, Engie, Good Energy, Green Energy UK, Green Star Energy, Octopus, Ovo and Solarplicity (Formally LoCO2).

I don’t have my exact usage. Can I still switch?

Yep, no problem. When asked just enter the amount you pay each month and an estimate can be made.

Is there a difference in the quality of gas and electric I receive, if I switch?

No. The only difference you’ll notice will be the name (and the price) on your gas and electricity bill.

How much can I save?

This will depend on a few factors such as your current energy tariff, your local area and personal circumstances. Ofgem research finds comparing and switching supplier or energy tariff can make a big difference to your gas and electricity bills, with annual savings of around £300. When comparing options potential savings are calculated on what you will be paying when your current tariff ends.

Does Choose Wisely supply energy?

Choose Wisely is a price comparison website and works with Quotezone.co.uk to provide an energy comparison service. Choose Wisely is not an energy supplier.

How long does it take to switch energy?

After deciding to switch energy you have 14 days to change your mind. During this period nothing will change. After this period it can take between 1 to 3 weeks for the supplier to change. In total, switching energy companies can take up to 5 weeks.
