Our review of Santander | Everyday Current Account
The Everyday Current Account is the free offering from Santander and doesn’t come with many added extras above and beyond being able to manage your account effectively, however the offer of £130 cashback when switching to the account. The standard benefits apply, such as free text and email alerts, being able to use your Visa debit card for purchases at home and abroad and being issued a contactless card, if eligible. However, where the Santander Everyday Current Account differs is with their free overdraft facility for the first four months. After this time there is a daily charge depending on how overdrawn you are, so be careful not to dip into it too far if you don’t need to, otherwise the charges will add up.
Switching to the Santander Everyday Current Account is a simple process and can be done from your existing Santander account, or from another bank or building society. Their team will change the payment details of your Direct Debits, standing orders and salary. This process can take up to seven working days. You’ll be kept up to date on the status of the switch via letter, text and email and they will even close your previous account for you and apply a redirect on any other payments to and from your old account for 36 months.
Although there aren’t any online reviews for the Everyday Current Account, Santander have quite a negative perception online. TrustPilot users have given them a rating of ‘bad’ which can be attributed to less than perfect customer service, policies that aren’t customer-friendly and security procedures that get in the way of good service.
Overall verdict: For a free account the Santander Everyday Current Account is fairly standard. There are little extras such as the four month free overdraft facility, but if you’re looking to earn interest, cashback or benefit from insurance then you may need to look to some of Santander’s more premium accounts.
