No fees whatsoever and great if you stay in credit... I did not save enough using the 123 accounts/cards (already paid mortgage off) and this account is perfect for me.

They have done nothing to help me out of my overdraft except advise to join there 123 account where I would have to pay to bank everymonth. I was originally with alliance and leicester before they were taken over

I have been a customer with Santander for quite a few years. I love their online banking it is so easy to use. I have two current accounts, a saving account and a mortgage with Santander. It is really easy to keep track of everything online. The interest rates aren't great, and if you go in your overdraft you get charged, but that's the case everywhere! It just works all the time, without persistent issues like with other banks

Terrible customer service

Their charges are shocking! I used to bank with RBS and they never charged me for failed Direct Debits, etc. Santander do. They love it! One month a mistake by a company meant they took a quadruple payment off my account using CPA (as a rule of thumb never use CPA always opt for DD) which meant there wasn’t enough in the account to meet five DDs so I got 5 x £15 (£75) unpaid DD fees which then put me into an unarranged overdraft which got me a further £12 fee! When I told Santander they didn’t care and said they won’t refund me the fees because I once had a separate £12 fee refunded a year previous! Avoid, avoid, avoid. There are plenty other high street banks around.

Good app, good customer service

The app, website and telephone customer service lines are all easy to use. Not ideal for more traditional banking however - paper statements take forever to arrive! It’s like Santander delays them for a week before bothering to send them out.

Our review of Santander | Everyday Current Account

The Everyday Current Account is the free offering from Santander and doesn’t come with many added extras above and beyond being able to manage your account effectively. The standard benefits apply, such as free text and email alerts, being able to use your Visa debit card for purchases at home and abroad and being issued a contactless card, if eligible. However, where the Santander Everyday Current Account differs is with their free overdraft facility for the first four months. After this time there is a daily charge depending on how overdrawn you are, so be careful not to dip into it too far if you don’t need to, otherwise the charges will add up.

Switching to the Santander Everyday Current Account is a simple process and can be done from your existing Santander account, or from another bank or building society. Their team will change the payment details of your Direct Debits, standing orders and salary. This process can take up to seven working days. You’ll be kept up to date on the status of the switch via letter, text and email and they will even close your previous account for you and apply a redirect on any other payments to and from your old account for 36 months.

Although there aren’t any online reviews for the Everyday Current Account, Santander have quite a negative perception online. TrustPilot users have given them a rating of ‘bad’ which can be attributed to less than perfect customer service, policies that aren’t customer-friendly and security procedures that get in the way of good service.

Overall verdict: For a free account the Santander Everyday Current Account is fairly standard. There are little extras such as the four month free overdraft facility, but if you’re looking to earn interest, cashback or benefit from insurance then you may need to look to some of Santander’s more premium accounts.
