Our review of CardOneBanking

Our review by Alex

If you’re looking for a prepaid card with low or no fees then the Cardonebanking could be an option worth looking into. There is no fee for applying or issuing the card and there are no for making purchases within the UK. You will need to pay £12.50 per month for the cardonebanking current account that links up with the prepaid credit card. If you want to use the card abroad, you’ll be subject to a small fee and a purchase in a local currency will cost you 2.75% of the transaction value. There is also a small charge if you want to use your mobile to keep an eye on your balance via text, but you’ll only pay your usual network text rate if you’re loading your card via text message.

Cardonebanking offer customers a good level of control over their card. You can check your balance at any time using the online banking facility, by calling their telephone team or by simply texting them. Using the online account you can also view your statements, authorise and amend Direct Debits, add another card onto the account, set up text alerts or pay bills using the Faster Payments service.

Reviews across the web paint a positive picture of Cardonebanking. At the time of writing they’ve scored an impressive 4.3 out of 5 on feefo.com. Although some customers do wish the monthly fee was less, a lot of the praise is about the easy online access, their excellent telephone team and quick resolution of any problems. One thing that you might need to watch out for is that sometimes the funds can take over an hour or so to transfer to the cardonebanking card, however, this is probably down to individual banks rather than the card itself.

Overall verdict: A fairly pricey monthly fee, but in comparison to other cards that charge per transaction it could work out as a cheaper option. Cardonebanking also appear to providing an excellent customer experience with efficient and responsive customer service. If you’re considering a prepaid card, Cardonebanking could be worth putting on your shortlist.

About CardOneBanking

Cardonebanking offer a Prepaid Debit MasterCard Card that looks like any normal credit card, but instead of spending borrowed money, you spend what you have loaded onto the card. There is no overdraft facility but you can use it in shops, online, paying for goods over the phone and for withdrawing cash from ATMs.

With Cardonebanking you will also be given a dedicated account manager who will set up standing orders, Direct Debits and regular payments from your account. It can also be setup that once all your bills are paid, the remaining balance is transferred to your Cardonebanking card so that you can control your disposable income. This can be set up using the online management portal accessed through the cardonebanking website where you can also view your balance and latest transactions. The most that you can load onto your card at one time is £1,250 and the total maximum for the card is £5,000.

To set up your account with cardonebanking there is no credit checks and no account opening fee or charge for issuing the card. You also don’t have to pay a fee for making purchases in the UK but you will need to pay £1.50 to withdraw cash from an ATM. If you want to add another user to the account (over the age of 13), you will need to pay an additional card fee of £5 per month.
