TSB Bank Loans customer reviews.
1.5 out of 5 stars
Was kind of talked into a £7500 loan when I initially went for a £3000 one, it had lots of interest and ruined the next five years of my financial life, still trying to get back on my feet!
TSB make it easy to apply and have fair interest rates. I received the money the same day and all application was done online. Would definitely recommend!
I have a number of accounts with TSB - current accounts, esavings, business banking to name a few. When I approached the bank for a personal loan a few years ago the process was completely seamless and the communication friendly and efficient.
I applied for a personal loan through this bank, as I am a current account holder, never been in my overdraft, never been below a certain amount in my account. I needed to build credit history so sought a loan rather than a credit card. However, I was so disappointed at the APR being as high or maybe higher than that of a credit card. I opted for a different provider with excellent rates and customer service. Clearly this bank doesn't value their long term customers. Would NOT recommend!
Loans are showing rates as low as 2.8% but the given rates are much higher, even when applying with a good credit score. Process to apply was simple being an existing customer.
I needed an emergency loan to cover unexpected costs for my wedding. I applied for a TSB persona loan. rate shown to me was +29% APR. I bit my tongue and clicked submit on the application only to be told instantly that my application was declined. Considering that I have been banking with TSB for over 14 years, I thought they would have a full picture of my financial and would realise that a £2,000 pound loan over 12 month was reasonable. However, it was fortunate that I was declined as I searched Martin's Money Saving Expert website and found out about Zopa (online Peer to Peer lending). My application was accepted and I am now paying a 3.99% APR (Paying back £2078.76 over 12 months on a £2,000 loan). The wedding was a blast and I now have 8 months left to pay back my small loan! Thank you Zopa
So fast and easy to arrange. Highly recommended.
I applied for a loan to assist with the cost of a holiday to Florida. As I have a TSB current account, I could do everything online and there was no delay in the approval. The money was transferred to my account straight away. I have given 9/10 stars for how likely I would be to recommend just because I feel that it is easier for people with current accounts to get a loan than anyone else. Also, it may be possible to get a better rate of interest elsewhere.
I was having financial difficulties and asked for a consolidation loan I borrowed 13000 over 60 months. I paid this loan of after 28 months and got no reimbursement whatsoever and i paid over 19000 pound back is this being treated fairly or is it pathetic. The loan agreements tiny print that is barely readable states £6.54 per day interest will be charged. TSB don't answer complaints and claim to have nothing wrong in ripping me off and helping me get further money worries since no reimbursement offered and no complaint regarding this matter resolved.
Been with the bank for over 30 years and they still offer you a high interst loan
Our review of TSB Bank Loans
Unlike most other high street banks, you don’t need to be an existing TSB customer to apply for one of their loans. However, to apply you will need to either call them or visit them in branch to apply. If you do have a current account with them and have held it for three months or more, then you can benefit from being able to apply online and then keep track of your loan through your online banking. Successful applicants can benefit from two repayment holidays per year for the loan term, however you will need to take into account that you will be still be accruing interest and so will end up paying more in the long run.
TSB require the criteria you would expect from a high street bank with such an affordable APR, however as well as the actual applicant needing good credit, no one associated with them can have been bankrupt or had a CCJ within the last five years. You will also need to have been registered on the electoral roll and can’t live on the Isle of Man or Channel Islands. If you are an existing TSB customer the minimum requirements are slightly less stringent, however you will most likely have had to meet these when applying for your current account in the first place.
The listed representative APR of 2.9% is only available on loans between £7,500 and £25,000, so be prepared for APRs of up to 30% for amounts outside of this bracket. The rate given on any amount will vary depending on your circumstances.
TSB currently have a review score of 2 out of 5 on Choose Wisely. While this isn’t great, it is one of the higher ratings of the high street bank lenders. It also needs to be considered that these reviews span their entire offering, not just their loans. After scanning the reviews there are mixed opinions on TSB and their customer service so it’s quite difficult to get a good idea of how customers feel about them.
Overall verdict: TSB offer affordable rates if you have good credit and meet their quite specific criteria. With benefits such as repayment holidays and management of the loan via online banking, they are worth researching, but, if your credit isn’t perfect then shop around to find the best lender for your circumstances.
