If you have poor credit, please read!

Onstride is advertised to appeal to people with poor credit but be warned, if you have poor credit DO NOT APPLY! Don't be fooled by the expert's review or other user reviews. If you have poor credit, even though they promise to consider you it is all a lie. Your application is put through an automated system which will let you know in seconds by analysing your credit history whether you are eligible. I made an application in the middle of the night and was refused in about 5 seconds without someone actually going through my application. The application process itself is simple but too general. You do not get the option of adding alternative sources of income in addition to full time employment and your outgoings are estimated. For example, if you pay £20 a month, it doesn't let you enter that amount. Instead you choose an option of £0-100 which is ridiculous considering the automated system will not be able to know which end of the spectrum you are leaning towards. This review is purely for people with poor credit regardless of whether you are in full-time employment and not riddled with debt. If you don't believe me, read all the reviews and see how many people with poor credit successfully got a loan with Onstride. I should have taken note then. If you have good credit, then you can proceed with your application but then again, why would you need an unsecured loan at a high APR with good credit when you can get better deals elsewhere?

On Stride were advised that I was being treated for breast cancer and unable to work for over a year. I was on ESA (incapacity benefit) of £76 a week. They accepted a token payment of £1 a month however, they refused to halt interest. As a result, I now owe £1,300 more than when I first became ill. I have five other creditors who all froze my interest, On Stride are the ONLY company who would not do this. So borrower beware!!!

On Stride, part of the same company that own QuickQuid and Pounds to Pocket, offer loans at a range of representative APRs depending on the applicant’s credit history and personal circumstances. Their lower rates of 29% and 45% are very good, especially as there is no guarantor required for this loan and they accept customers who may not have perfect credit history.

Their application process is very detailed and they take the time to make sure that customers can afford the loan which is a positive sign. To apply you will need to present information of your employment, show paycheques and bank statements in order for them to process your application and find the interest rate suitable for you. Although this can be seen as a bit of a pain and inconvenience, it’s a confidence booster that you’re dealing with a company that does have its customers’ interests at heart. On Stride also try to show their responsible side by reassuring applicants that their site is secure and giving them top tips for choosing the best personal loan.

On TrustPilot On Stride have received a score of 8.8 out of 10 which is classed as ‘great’. Customers have praised their customer service team, the straightforward process and the speed from the beginning of the application to the pay out of the loan. Some poor reviews are from customers who have been through the application and sent the necessary documentation but where then declined, which is fair enough if they hadn’t met the criteria.

Overall verdict: On Stride position themselves as a responsible lender that can provide loans at a rate that is appropriate to the circumstances of the borrower. They don’t have any hidden charges or fees and their lowest APRs are decent. They seem to have a detailed application process, which can seem inconvenient, but the positive reviews online suggest that it’s worth it in the end.

About On Stride

On Stride offer unsecured personal loans between £1,000 to £10,000 to be repaid over one to five years and at a representative APR of 45.3%. As with many other lenders, your credit history, the amount being borrowed and your personal circumstances can all affect the rate you’re offered. On Stride also state that loans can be available at 29% and 89% so you may not receive the advertised rate, but you will receive one tailored to your credit history and circumstances.

Customers must complete their application for an On Stride loan online and to make the application faster it’s best to have the required information to hand including your employment details, address history, bank details and a bank statement dated within the last 30 days. On Stride highlight that their website is secure and that customers’ personal information is protected at all times.

Once the application is completed and submitted it will be reviewed by On Stride who will let you know how much you are able to borrow (if you qualify), the length of loan term and the interest rate. This can take a couple of days, however if you are approved them the funds can appear in your account within the same day.
