Very poor customer service! Trying to charge interest when the error is between them and my bank..... made payment they bounced it back then charge me full interest as if i hadnt made any payment. Fact was i paid 2850 and paid a 200 figure from my other account.... (it only needed £180 to pay off due to a credit) but they want ro charge full interest on £3k.... until my statement came through.... so less than 10 days £118. . They refused the good will and im going to tackle my bank tomorrow.... will be cancelling my m&s card now.

I have had this card for a few years now and picked it because it had a zero interest rate on purchases of 15 months which was really useful for purchases like a tv.

good product horrid website

The website and the portal to administer the credit card is lacking. There is no way to actually administer the account as all the features end up firing off a contact form. So changing the direct debit amount is pointlessly difficult.

Helpful and friendly customer service, issues with sign up vouchers

I have been very impressed with the M&S credit card which I applied for due to the excellent 18 month 0% interest for purchases and balance transfers. The initial application was swift and easy, however the £30 voucher sign up incentive took over 3 months to arrive. I recently changed my payment to direct debit and this was arranged quickly and easily over the phone by the friendly and helpful customer service helpline.

My husband has an M & S credit card. He recently asked to add myself as a second card holder. Easy you would think. I have lived in the UK for nearly 50 years. I pay taxes, I work, I am registered to vote, I have had my own bank account for over 38 years. No apparently they can't find me so want written proof. And this nugget was given to us after 5 lengthy phone calls. They talk from a script and promise to get back to you but they never do. There customer service team can have limited English skills which make the whole process even more painful. So no joy with M and S - just left feeling frustrated. At least my bank , Lloyds, managed to complete their own security checks and issue my husband a card within 5 working days - look and learn M & S because you have now lost a customer.

Our review of Marks & Spencer | Shopping Plus credit card

Consumer sentiment

Marks and Spencer is a respected British institution and their M&S Bank launched in 2012. The bank was based on M&S Money, which itself had a 30 year history. There are branches in the main Marks and Spencer stores, which are open whenever the stores are open. This means that personal customer service is very easy to reach. M&S Bank offers a number of different financial products from loans to current accounts, but this review is about their Shopping Plus credit card.

The Shopping Plus credit card has an introductory purchase rate of 0% for 25 months. That means you won’t pay any interest on your spending for over two years. In a crowded market, M&S Bank also offers some great benefits to make their card an interesting option. You’ll have expected the standard perk of earning points when you shop, which can be accrued in all shops, not just M&S. If you’re looking to transfer across an existing credit card balance, there is also 0% on balance transfers for 90 days after opening the account. However, you’ll be charged a fee to transfer the money, so it’s worth working out what this will cost you before applying. M&S Bank also offers another credit card, the Transfer Plus, which may be better deal if you’re looking to transfer a balance. With the Shopping Plus card, you can also save on M&S travel money and earn a bonus points voucher for shopping at the store.

People are generally positive about the Shopping Plus credit card, with a review score of 3.5/5 at the time of writing. However, some customers have had problems claiming the account rewards and making changes to their account online and over the phone. If you’re taking out this card for the 0% introductory offer, be sure to make at least the minimum payment each month. If not, it will not only impact your credit file but the introductory period will also come to an end. You should consider paying off the full balance before the end of the introductory period, to avoid being charged interest.

Overall Verdict: Marks and Spencer are a reliable brand and their customer service seems to be making a positive impression on consumers. If you regularly shop at M&S, the Shopping Plus credit card is worth considering as you will earn more points and be able to access cheaper travel money. It’s worth comparing your options to see if there are better purchase cards available to you and making sure you can afford the minimum repayment before applying.
