It takes nearly a month from application to delivery of card. The app for online banking is very basic. I chose to apply for this card over others due to the reward/cashback potential that comes with accumulating points for vouchers and the introductory points to get an easy £25 to spend at M&S - all it takes!
Fantastic customer service, interest rate 5% also 5% on the yearly monthly saving account you won't get much better than this.

Requested a credit card approximately a month ago and still not received my card. Was told it takes 2 weeks from returning paperwork which I did promptly. I rang after 2 weeks to see if they had paperwork and was told ‘yes we got it but we’re really busy at the moment - wait for another 2 weeks’. Still not got it. I will then have to order the second card for my wife as can’t order 2 straight away. They don’t even confirm for definite what the actual credit limit is until you get the card. Compared to other companies really slow service and delaying me from purchasing some big items from M&S ironically
Not the best service really. Took 3 weeks to get a card at all, I had to return paper terms and conditions which they misplaced for a week. No additional cardholder like I requested, got to wait 2 weeks to have the additional cardholder credit checked!? App and online banking are very basic, can't view cardholders or view/change direct debit. App doesn't show pending transactions, only complete ones. Card constantly asks for 3dsecure password when making payments. Reward points are extremely low. Only plus side is the actual deal - I got a high limit and 30 months purchase interest free.
Our experience dealing with the closure of an M&S credit card account has been appalling. We have never dealt with such an unprofessional, inefficient and uncaring Bank. Finding a contact Tel number is difficult and the addresses are in various parts of the country. When you do get hold of someone it's a Call Centre and they appear to be unsure how to sort out your query. It took us a great deal of time and exhausted phone calls to sort out something that should have been so easy. We have never had a written apology. It caused a great deal of stress. A warning to those thinking of opening an account with them...DON'T . Please note that this has No Reflection on M&S Retail shops.
I was in a strange position of being unemployed yet having a decent income through alimony. Most places I applied for online, rejected my application because "computer says no!". They were the only ones who bothered contacting me to confirm my source of income and approved the application. And the product is brilliant :)
The attraction of the card is the points but, despite receiving about 40 pages of legalese, at no point is any explanation given about how the points work. Online customer services are no help. There is no option to apply for a second card when opening the account. It takes a 15 minute phone call to persuade somebody to send you an application form for a second card but then a refusal to issue one until certified passport copies or similar are posted off. Only a very restricted list of professions are accepted as suitable to certify the documents. Just not worth the effort!
I applied for a M&S credit card , very quick acceptance letter . I then received a pin number , card to arrive shortly . Another letter with another pin number arrived 2 days later , still no card . Spoke on telephone , card would arrive shortly , 2 weeks later still no card I have given up.
Opened an M& S Credit card account recently. I asked to pay full balance every month by Direct Debit but forms did not arrive so chased them up and was told I could arrange it over the phone. Did so and was told my payment would be made by due date, even though I queried it. Payment did not come off my bank even though the direct debit has been set up. When I telephoned I asked to pay the full amount by card so as not to incur fees but was told that I would incur fees EVEN THOUGH THIS IS THEIR FAULT. Customer service representative was asked twice if the payment could be taken on time and reassured me that it could - now she says it will take 10 working days but never told me that in the first place. I will be changing account suppliers ASAP as I do not like being lied to. If she knew it took 10 days why did she not tell me that when I originally set up the direct debit then I could have made a payment online to cover myself. I have an otherwise unblemished credit record and this has spoiled it. It has also spoiled my belief in M & S and I shall not shop there again.
Easy ways to pay, good rates, earn points with any purchase. They don' t automatically increase your credit allowance, but raised mine without problem after checking my credit rating after contacting them.

Marks and Spencer is a respected British institution and their M&S Bank launched in 2012. The bank was based on M&S Money, which itself had a 30 year history. There are branches in the main Marks and Spencer stores, which are open whenever the stores are open. This means that personal customer service is very easy to reach. M&S Bank offers a number of different financial products from loans to current accounts, but this review is about their Shopping Plus credit card.
The Shopping Plus credit card has an introductory purchase rate of 0% for 20 months.That means you won’t pay any interest on your spending for over two years. In a crowded market, M&S Bank also offers some great benefits to make their card an interesting option. You’ll have expected the standard perk of earning points when you shop, which can be accrued in all shops, not just M&S. If you’re looking to transfer across an existing credit card balance, there is also 0% on balance transfers for 90 days after opening the account. However, you’ll be charged a fee to transfer the money, so it’s worth working out what this will cost you before applying. M&S Bank also offers another credit card, the Transfer Plus, which may be better deal if you’re looking to transfer a balance. With the Shopping Plus card, you can also save on M&S travel money and earn a bonus points voucher for shopping at the store.
People are generally positive about the Shopping Plus credit card, with a review score of 3.5/5 at the time of writing. However, some customers have had problems claiming the account rewards and making changes to their account online and over the phone. If you’re taking out this card for the 0% introductory offer, be sure to make at least the minimum payment each month. If not, it will not only impact your credit file but the introductory period will also come to an end. You should consider paying off the full balance before the end of the introductory period, to avoid being charged interest.
Overall Verdict: Marks and Spencer are a reliable brand and their customer service seems to be making a positive impression on consumers. If you regularly shop at M&S, the Shopping Plus credit card is worth considering as you will earn more points and be able to access cheaper travel money. It’s worth comparing your options to see if there are better purchase cards available to you and making sure you can afford the minimum repayment before applying.
